An open cycling championship of ITERA International Group of Companies took place in the small Olympic ring in Krylatskoye within the framework of the corporate games on September 5. Along with employees of the corporation, famed veterans of the domestic cycling, eminent foreign guests toed the starting line of the 10th jubilee competition.
Karatekas, repeated champions of Russia, Europe and the world, as well as young members of ITERA Ashikhara Karate Club celebrated the cycling festival together with racers. They entertained numerous fans with a colorful show, while musicians of the popular ensemble headed by Semen Milstein, merited actor of Russia, helped retain good spirit on the starting line.
Children of ITERA employees were first to start. Feodor Sorokin was the fastest among boys of seven years old. Arseni Churanov was the best among boys of nine years old. Alexandra Amelkhina was the winner among girls.
Women participated in the competition together with men. They followed the example of their girl-friends from ITERA Ashikhara Karate Club who happened to be passionate bicyclists. Karatekas were headed by Natalia Shalayeva, the Club’s coach, master of sport. They toed the starting line of the bicycle race right after the karate show. In the face of spectators, they dispensed with kimono to appear in a cycling dress. Valentina Yevpak won the distance of 4.3 km.
Vladimir Grishechko, editor of the ProVelo Magazine was the strongest in mountain bike.
Igor Makarov, a World-class athlete and head of ITERA, won the group road racing (21.5 km). Jan Lemonier, President of A.S.O., an organizer of the largest world competitions, the famous Tour de France among them, was the second.
Sergei Prikhodko, Assistant to the Russian Federation President, Oleg Sienko, President of the Federation of Bicycling of Russia, and Tatiana Arno, a TV Channel 1 guide, presented the awards to prize-winners.
At closing the celebration, Igor Makarov warmly congratulated the awarded athletes and all contestants with the jubilee race and the Day of Oil and Gas Industry.
The traditional way, winners in ITERA Championship donated their prize money for charitable activities. Ten thousand dollars will be used on urgent treatment of Nikita Lobashev of five years old of the Archangel Region, complicated surgery for Kostia Charykov of three years old of the Tomsk Region, and for Nastia Zaitseva of the Kemerovo Region.
