The XI ITERA (ITERA International Group of Companies) Open Bicycle Championship was held at a small Olympic ring in Krylatskoye in Moscow.
Despite the rain, the Championship attracted a record number of participants. Igor Makarov, President of the Federation of Bicycling of Russia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ITERA International Group of Companies, a world class athlete, and Alexander Krasnov, Sergey Suhoruchenkov and Anatoly Yarkin, Olympic champions, as well as employees of the company including winners and prize-winners in World, the USSR and Russia Championship Sergey Nikitenko, Ivan Mishchenko, Peter Chevardov, Yury Amelkhin and other eminent racers came to the start of the race. Popular performers, such as Phillip Kirkorov, the People's actor of Russia, Simeon Milshtein, honored actor of Russia, Andrew Malakhov and Tatyana Arno, the known TV anchors, came to support athletes.
An official personality of KATUYSHA, the Russian professional bicycle team, was for the first time presented to participants and visitors of competition. This high mission had been assigned to Katya Ryabova, a 13 year-old silver medal winner at Eurovision-2009, an International Children's Song Competition. Igor Makarov has handed a racing bicycle over to the young singer.
- One cannot, but like bicycling. It is vigorous and bright, - Katya said. I envy boys and girls who are professionally involved with bicycling. I shall try and learn how to ride a bicycle a confident and beautiful way.
A group road racing took place after children, women and mountain bikers have started their races. Jury Amelkhin, a five-time champion of Russia, was winner in it. He outstripped Igor Makarov, Yury Plotnikov, Hero of Russia, a holder of three awards of Courage, a world-class athlete and Andrew Chmil, President of KATUYSHA professional team.
According to the tradition, winners and prize-winners of the Championship of ITERA International Group of Companies transferred prize money for charitable purposes. Ten thousand dollars will be used for urgent surgery to a six year-old Alesha Ovsyannikov, a one-year-old Sonia Shabunina of Udmurtiya, and a three-year-old Nick Nerush of the Samara Region.
When sharing his impressions of the competitions, Sergey Suhoruchenkov, a merited master of sports, said that the current competition reminded him of an event 30 years ago in Krylatskoye where he gained the most important victory of the Olympic Games. «When I realized what noble purposes were pursued by the current race, I immediately accepted a participation offer, because it all was about the health of children», - the glorified athlete noted.
