The Russian Cycling Federation (RCF) Board of Trustees established in September 2007 held its first meeting in Moscow. The meeting took place at the central office of ITERA, who was the main RCF sponsor for seven years.
As REGIONS.RU's reporter was informed by the Press-Service of the RCF Board of Trustees, Mr. Sergei Chemizov - CEO of Rosoboronexport and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees opened the meeting calling it a milestone event in the development of domestic cycling. The Board consists of representatives from governmental institutions, governors, heads of major business entities.
"The Russian Cycling", stressed Sergei Chemizov, "is on the verge of major achievements and the main objective of the Board is to help attract investment in this sports and establish conditions necessary for successful performance of our athletes at 2008 Olympics".
A decision was taken to establish a specialized non-profit organization –Cycling Development and Support Fund. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of ITERA Oil and Gas Company Igor Makarov was elected as the Fund President, while the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Troika Dialog Group Ruben Vardanyan became the Chairman of the Fund Management Board.
The Board of Trustees approved the RCF's initiative to create a Russian professional ProTour team and set up a ProTour race in our country.
According to the President of RCF Mr. Alexander Gusyatnikov there are several route options selected for the future race to take place in the Southern Federal District including suburbs of Sochi. The first ProTour race in Russia is scheduled for 2009.
"We have many talented racers having to perform in foreign teams, or not having the opportunity to discover their capabilities in full", stated the RCF President.
The Board of Trustees approved elaboration of a comprehensive cycling development program until 2016 and heard the progress report on preparation of national cycling teams for Olympics in Beijing.
Alexander Gusyatnikov stressed that RCF had filed a preliminary application for holding Cycling World Cup in Russia in 2012.
