A monument to F.K. Salmanov, a legendary geologist, was open in Vagankovo Cemetery.
According to information REGIONS.RU have received from the Press-Service of ITERA International Group of Companies, F.K. Salmanov, Doctor of Geology and Mineralogical science, the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences made it into history of the world geology as a discoverer of over 150 unique oil and gas fields in Western Siberia. Those fields have made a foundation of the oil and gas complex of the country. He was a distinguished scholar and a man of practical achievement. He was a success as a First Deputy Minister of Geology of the USSR. In recent years he served as an adviser to Chairman of the Board of Directors of ITERA Oil and Gas Company, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yugneftegaz, its affiliate company.
F.K. Salmanov was a hero of socialist labor, prizewinner of Lenin and Gubkin prizes, an honorary citizen of the Khanty-Mansiysk and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Districts, Surgut town, as well as Texas and Jinzhou town (PRC).
The monument opening ceremony took place on F.K. Salmanov’s birthday. His relatives and friends, his team-mates, including renowned scientists and industrialists, as well as representatives of ITERA and the diplomatic staff of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation attended the ceremony.
F. Rzayev, a sculptor, and Eu. Khailov, an architect, were authors of the monument. The monument shows F.K. Salmanov beside a map of Western Siberia with the largest hydrocarbon deposits discovered by the famous geologist marked.
